FAQ
Textbook Rental:
What textbooks can be rented?
The rental program is offered by way of a partnership with our textbook wholesaler, Follett Higher Education Group. This partnership will allow us to offer rentals for around 70% of the books that are used for RCC classes. (Access codes, book bundles, or editions changing in the near future may cause books to be unavailable to rent.)
How do I know if my books can be rented? Just ask. Rental prices can also be found on the Randolph Community College website (follow the campus store link.) You just need your schedule for you class information.
What do I need to rent a book? Your schedule, your student ID, a credit or debit card, and a desire to get a good deal on books.
Why do I need a credit/ debit card? A credit or debit card is needed as collateral just in case you damage your book, turn it in late or never return it in at all. All rental transactions require this, but no charges will be made unless you fail to return your books on time and in good condition at the end of the semester.
Can I rent textbooks using Financial Aid? Yes, we are able to take Financial Aid as a form of payment which is what makes this such a great program. (You will still be required to use a credit or debit card for collateral, see above.)
How long do I get to keep my books? Through the RCC in-store rental, you are renting a textbook for the length of the semester. Return dates will be on your receipt and posted around the store.
When/ where do I return my rented books? Right here at the RCC Campus store. Just bring your rented books and your student ID.
Can I buy my book later if I want to keep it? Yes, you will just pay the additional retail cost of the book by the return date.
What If I don’t return my book? If you fail to return your book, you will be charged a late fee of $15 per book up until the late rental return date. If you do not have your book turned in by the lost rental return date, you will be charged for the cost of the book as well as the late fee. This will be applied to the credit or debit card that you gave for collateral when renting. All balances not paid are subject to collection by Follett Higher Education Group. We don’t want this to happen either so please get your rented books in on time. (You can find rental return, late return, and lost rental dates at the RCC Campus Store attached to your receipt.)
Can I rent used books too? Absolutely, The National Association of College Stores (NACS) actually recommends used rented textbooks as the cheapest option for students to get their books. Even cheaper that new rental, eBooks, or buying used books online.
